Indonesia Basketball Camp Mission Trip | The Fellowship

Indonesia Basketball Camp Mission Trip

Saturday, June 29, 2024

Join the team! ....Basketball Camp Mission Team that is! Do you already love basketball and have a working knowledge of the game? If yes, you are the perfect person to join this mission trip.

This will be our fifth Youth Basketball Camp Mission Trip to Indonesia and the first since 2019. Football (think soccer) is the predominant youth sport in Indonesia as it is in almost the entire world. The problem is that not all youth have the desire to play football. Giving youth the skills necessary to excel at basketball is another way for the kids to exercise, stay out of trouble and it offers the basketball program leaders that run the program in Aceh to build relationships with the students and parents with the plan and prayer to share what Jesus has done for all of them.

This trip is all about doing the good deed of sharing basketball skills to youth so that good will is built, that allows the basketball program leaders to contextually share the good news of the Gospel when the opportunity presents itself. Embedded in the entire camp training program are Christian values and principles that otherwise would be off limits to teach the youth athletes.

As a team member, you will assist the US high school coach that leads the mission trip in teaching these skills, values and principles. Your role is critical to giving the coach the capacity to oversee the camp and focus on relationship building.

The link to apply for this Mission Trip is HERE.

This is your opportunity to travel internationally on a mission trip to help host a basketball camp for youth who are learning the basics of basketball from a program that uses Christian-values as the basis of their training program. This trip is schedule to depart June 23 and July 2nd. This trip is for adults and students. Students must be going into their senior year of high school and may travel on their own with the signed permission of their parent or guardian and the approval of the Fellowship Student Pastor.

Although you will be helping facilitate the basketball camp, you do not need to be an expert. We have a very seasoned basketball coach leading this team that has done many of these camps in Indonesia.

All team members are required to attend our orientation classes designed to prepare you for doing ministry in a developing country of which Islam as it is dominant faith system. The orientation meetings are schedule for April 9th, April 23rd and May 11th, all at 12:30 - 2pm.

You are asked to raise your trip support to cover the cost of your trip. We will give you all the tools to make sure you are successful at raising your trip support. The trip cost will be $2800 and covers your round-trip airline ticket, lodging and food during the trip. You are encouraged to bring $100 spending money for your personal use. We ask that each participant also establish a prayer team that will pray on your behalf during the trip. NOTE: The $2800 trip cost is subject to change based on a final calculation by April 30, 2024.

Why are we going? Our goal is to strengthen our host organization's relationship with the local community by doing good deeds. Those good deeds will build goodwill so that our hosting organization can share the VERY Good News of who Jesus is. Flexibility will be the key skill you will exercise.

Application guidelines:

  • Adults and students going into their senior year of high school the fall of 2024 are welcome to apply.
  • Minor children 17-18 may register individually or on their guardian's application.
  • The trip cost is a tentative $2800/ person and must be deposited before departure on the trip.

We ask all participants to raise their trip funds ... rather than pay for the trip out of pocket.

Why? When you trust God to provide the funds for your trip, you will be blessed and you will be inviting others to journey with you. We have a very good process for you to follow when raising your trip funds. We have never had anyone not raise their goal funds.

Completing an application does not guarantee acceptance to travel on the trip.

If your application is accepted but you drop out of the team any time before the trip departure date, any funds raised will be applied to the team cost.

We have 6 slots available for the basketball team and 8 slots available for the re-visioning team, so the review and acceptance of applications will be considered in the order received.
