Even the Smallest Details

    Oct 29, 2023 | by The Fellowship

After 15 years in the two-story home where our three adult sons were raised, we recently decided to downsize and purchase the one-story house directly across the street.  It had been the home of my husband’s parents! What a blessing to have lived across the street from these two special people as we raised our boys! They are truly better young men today because of having the love and support of these grandparents so easily accessible.

Unfortunately, my in-laws (Mom and Dad) passed away and the house has sat vacant this past year. We have spent that time slowing emptying the contents while we worked through the probate process.  Although probate was prolonged due to some unforeseen hiccups, it was still an unexpected blessing to have a full year to slowly prepare Mom and Dad’s house to sell.

In August as we were preparing to list the house for sale, God used some creative ways to get our attention so that we would consider purchasing their house for ourselves. We began to pray about the decision and felt God directing us to do just that ... which meant selling our current home!

What followed was a whirlwind few weeks of packing, painting and prepping our residence to be listed for sale.  We got it on the market within five weeks of making the decision to move across the street. Throughout the entire process, we continually prayed for God to guide our decisions and we prayed that He would “be in all the details”— big and small!

As we met with our real estate agent, a longtime friend and member of this church, to discuss the specifics of our listing, she asked what our ideal timeline would be. She knew that getting our new home across the street ready to occupy required six weeks to remodel. We told her our dream scenario was to stay in our current home and lease it back for six weeks after closing to avoid having to double move. (If we had to move out, all our belongings would need to be placed in storage PODS and a short-term rental found and paid for during those six weeks.) The realtor shared that in today’s market, the ideal situation we desired was not likely to happen -- but any potential buyer could be asked for those terms. We very much expected a double move, but prayed for God to send the right buyer who would allow us to stay in our home until our new home was ready.

On the very Wednesday our house was placed on the market, we received our first offer! What a blessing! And within four days, we had several, generous offers to consider. Our realtor set a deadline for all offers to be submitted by midnight Sunday.

We went to bed Sunday night grateful for offers to pray about. On Monday morning, we awoke to an additional offer that had come in overnight. It was unbelievable! Not only was the offer above the asking price, but the terms allowed us to stay in our home for six weeks after closing … for FREE!  We never expected to receive such a generous offer with equally generous terms! God blessed us abundantly and exceedingly more than we even knew to ask! We are overwhelmed with thankfulness!

How exciting to see God’s hand in all the details throughout this selling/remodeling/moving experience. We are amazed by His concern for even the smallest details!  Our prayers continue daily for His continuing guidance in this process. Our greatest desire is for Him to be glorified as we testify to His goodness.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
to all generations, forever and ever.
