Our son-in-law lost his job during COVID. He had a good engineering position in Oklahoma but was a newer hire who had been employed for less than two years. Although he had years of experience, his current employer was downsizing plants. The corporation did offer him two different locations as future options in big cities located in other states. With the family so happily settled in Oklahoma, our son-in-law chose another offer within the same city. He is a hard worker, strong believer and Godly family man. We looked at his new job as God’s provision. Unfortunately, it turned out not to be permanent. Our families began to fervently pray!
We opened our home to this daughter’s family of four when they sold the Oklahoma home. Without any employment options available at the time, the young couple was waiting on God’s direction and timing for their next job.
It was a joyful two months as we shared life together. Having other family members in the area meant lots of fun activities for all. Our son-in-law reached out to many companies, first in Houston -- and then across the USA. The corporation he had worked for early in his career responded with a nice offer! The job was in California. It seemed so far away, but we all looked at this opportunity as the answer to our prayers.
A realtor in California, who had been recommended by friends, was quickly contacted. While the young family was on the road to their new adventure, the house search began online. Shortly after arriving, they were able to purchase a home and settle into the California COVID lifestyle. Adapting to their new circumstances included finding a wonderful church!
About a year later, another company out of the blue contacted our son-in-law after viewing his online profile. Though he was not looking for new employment, the company invited him to fly out to their facility in Virginia. A great offer was made, but the starting date was in two weeks! At his and our daughter’s request, our extended family immediately began to pray for the Lord’s will. We also called on the Prayer Team at The Fellowship to intercede with us.
The couple decided to take the new job and move to Virginia. Unfortunately, the California market for house sales was poor, and they were unable to sell their house. Their realtor offered to move in, being between houses herself. She would pay the house note and utilities. This seemed to be a good solution at the time. However, there was no progress on selling the house for four years!
Our daughter was able to get a very good job teaching at a Christian school in Virginia, and both of our granddaughters join her there. The only downside has been a very difficult rush hour commute every day. This couple recently decided to sell their house and look for one closer to the school. To be able to put a better down payment on a new house, they needed to sell one of their properties.
While the market in California has improved, there was some concern that the renter of the house might resist the sale! Once again, our extended family banded together to lay the situation before our faithful Lord. My husband and I asked The Fellowship Prayer Team as well as our LIFE Group and long-time Bible study group to support us in seeking the Lord’s help. It just so happened that The Fellowship sermon series during this period was on prayer -- and it took on real time meaning!
After the California house went back on the market a few weeks ago, our daughter was very quickly contacted by their realtor – a solid offer had already been placed on the table!
We were amazed at how fast things happened! The closing on the sale of the California house was last week. That triggered the purchase of the new house in Virginia a few days later! All that remains is the sale of their current house in Virginia!
How we give thanks to our mighty God, always answering prayer in His perfect timing! All the praise goes to His Holy Name!
