A few weeks ago, my 88-year-old mother became very sick and was feeling incredibly weak. Other than having diabetes which is well controlled, she has been remarkably healthy all of her life. But now her breathing had become labored, coughing was continuous, and she was having significant chest pains. When my two sisters, who also live in the same major city, saw her condition – they rushed her to a renowned hospital where the doctors admitted her immediately.
Tests were quickly ordered and the results requested in the shortest time possible. The initial diagnosis was heavy and terrifying: an enlarged heart, pneumonia, and the potential for a massive heart attack that might occur at any moment!
A prominent cardiologist examined my mother and reviewed all the data revealed by the tests. He told my sisters that she must remain in the hospital where her condition could be managed by medical professionals until her heart finally gave out. A team of relevant specialists was assigned to her case.
Our mother has been an incredible woman of God all of her life, a fervent prayer warrior who constantly serves the Lord. From our youngest days, she has instilled in each of her children a great love for the Lord. She modeled for us how to continually praise Him and to pray without ceasing about every need in our lives and in the lives of others who are experiencing life’s challenges.
As soon as this news was shared with my other two sisters and me, we all fell to our knees, began to intercede for our mother’s healing, and proclaimed to the Lord our trust in Him to completely deliver her. All five of us sisters frequently pray together (despite being scattered internationally) through the use of WhatsApp. And each one of us reached out to innumerable people in our churches and Christian friend groups as well as those in our extended family to join us in this prayer battle for our mother’s life.
When some of the team of doctors were gathered in my mother’s room discussing her case, my sisters walked into the room and one of them boldly declared: “The Lord can give my mother a new heart!” The doctors, relying strictly on their human medical knowledge, dismissed her declaration by re-emphasizing the very imminent danger that our mother was in.
But God had the final say! The doctors ordered a round of definitive tests to exactly pinpoint everything that was malfunctioning in her heart.
When the new test results came back, the team was very shocked! They could not believe what their eyes were seeing! What they saw completely defied modern medical science. The readings were totally opposite to the results of prior tests. Not just one test showed different results – they all did!
The doctors knew that something supernatural had happened. They admitted that it looked as though God had literally given her a brand-new heart.
The turnaround was total. My mom was discharged from the hospital and sent home. Today she is in excellent health. She is no longer confined to the bed but is standing up and moving around. Her voice is once again loud and strong as she prays right along with her sons and daughters. Not only does she praise the Lord for His deliverance, her prayers for others, as always, are continually being lifted before Him!
Some words in a Christian song describe my thankfulness: “The voices of a million angels cannot express my gratitude. To God be the glory!”
