PRAYER STORIES
Stories of answered prayers.
I feel privileged to share about a new friend and brother in Christ. His story is one of courage, perseverance, and most importantly, the faithfulness of our God.
A few weeks ago, this young man and a companion walked into our church with little more than a dream in their pockets and faith in their hearts. They had just left Tyler, Texas, and arrived in Houston chasing a vision for the future. This new friend told me that it was a simple Google search—and the guidance of his God-fearing momma—that led him to our congregation. He did not just find a church that day -- he found a family.
His dream has always been about working in the trades. He is a welder by skill and passion but longed to push beyond the ordinary into something extraordinary: becoming an underwater welder. To pursue that calling, this young man applied to The Ocean Corporation, a commercial diving school in Houston. His determination and talent were recognized, and he was awarded a partial scholarship to begin classes on August 4th.
But even with that open door, the obstacles in front of him were overwhelming. Upon arriving in Houston, he had no roof over his head. He and his companion were living out of a car while trying to piece together what life was going to look like in a new city.
It was just over a month ago that the Lord brought them through the doors of The Fellowship. This new attendee met with Pastor Brian Hummel and shared the depth of his situation. A small group was gathered to pray—asking God to provide exactly was needed, specifically a roof over their heads close to where this young man would attend school. This prayer became the starting point of God’s visible provision.
That same day, we connected the two new visitors with our church’s social services director. He helped assess their immediate needs and linked them with resources in our city, including Hope Impacts, Clothed by Faith, Christ Clinic Katy and others. A hotel room was provided for one night, trusting that God would open the next door.
And He did!
Opportunities began to unfold as they quickly connected with the organizations we introduced them to and began receiving tangible help. West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM), who was already assisting with school subsidy, also stepped in with housing subsidy. God was weaving together a network of provision right before our eyes.
Each week, the two returned to The Fellowship—not just for worship, but to share updates with us on how God was moving in their lives. Each Sunday became a testimony. They were no longer just surviving; they were seeing the Lord’s hand clearly guiding their steps.
Today, the underwater welding student is living in stable housing just 15 minutes from his school. He has food in his refrigerator, is excelling in his classes, and has a job interview lined up as he continues searching for steady work to help cover his living expenses. Even more encouraging, would you believe he already has an offer for his dream job once he finishes training at The Ocean Corporation!
But the most beautiful part of this young man’s story is not about jobs, housing, or even education—it is about Jesus. He has shared with me that through all of this, his relationship with Christ has been reignited! He knows that the same God who provided food, shelter, and opportunity is the God who has provided salvation and restored his life.
As a sign of his renewed faith, my new friend made the decision to be baptized again last Sunday. It was a public declaration that he belongs to Jesus Christ and that his identity is found not in his circumstances, but in his Savior.
This story is not just about one man’s dream of becoming an underwater welder – but more importantly it is a reminder
of what God does every single day: He takes brokenness and turns it into hope. He takes those who feel lost and places them in a family. He provides when the need feels too great. And most of all, He makes all things new. All glory to the One and Only God, our Savior forever!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
